Betty’s work with partner districts has focused on resource mapping and weighted student funding (WSF) in Rochester and Baltimore. In Rochester, Betty conducted a resource use analysis with a special focus on funding equity, special education, human capital, and school-level resource use. She is also supporting Rochester in their shift to a WSF system, beginning with the implementation of their pilot program in 2010-11. In Baltimore, she supported the district in developing and implementing their school support network structure, which was designed to improve the central office’s ability to meet the instructional and operational needs of schools within a WSF environment.
Betty also tackles many of our internal knowledge management projects including co-planning the 2010 Weighted Student Funding District Summit, supporting our work with the Aspen CFO Network, working on the development of the ERS Resource Guides, and contributing to a paper on central office resource use to be published in partnership with the Annenberg Institute.
Before joining ERS, Betty was an Analyst at Eduventures where she supported leading K-12 and higher education corporations with business planning and strategy. She served as a Development Associate for the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health, managing and analyzing the annual fund’s campaigns and operating budget. Betty also taught English in Valence, France, where she found her French slang dictionary to be one of the most critical tools for connecting with her students.
Betty lives in Cambridge, MA—also known as the most opinionated zip code in America. She is a tennis fanatic who is always looking for tips on how to improve her net game and aspires to be a spectator at each of the Grand Slams, though she’s only made it to one out of four so far. Betty is also an avid reader and can most often be found trolling the bookshelves at the Watertown Library during lunch.
